Berlin police have entered and interrupted the Palestine Conference, cutting off power to the space, as they make “legal checks” of speeches. The weekend event, organized by left-wing parties and pro-Palestinian groups including Jewish ones, had just kicked off. Police entered and the livestream was cut as the Palestinian rights researcher, Salman Abu Sitta, was about two minutes into prepared remarks delivered remotely.
Sitta advocates for Palestinian right of return. Earlier, Germany’s Antisemitism Commissioner Felix Klein called for him to be blocked from entering Germany to participate in person. Other invited guests have been reported to have been denied entry to Germany, as well.
It's worthwhile noting that just last night a major German broadcaster hosted a primetime political debate with Björn Höcke — co-leader of the far-right AfD in the state of Thuringia, whom German domestic intelligence has classified as a far-right extremist.
